Studio Fashion Photography
As I mentioned in my Location Fashion page, 50% of my time is spent creating studio fashion photography. The nature of my work means that I’m often in a variety of studios both large and small or even creating a studio at a client’s place of work. Cost-effective flexibility and the ethos of not wanting the overhead for a studio means I hire or use studios on an ad-hoc basis, fitting the studio around the needs of the project.
I’ve worked in studios since my early 20’s. In those days it was art directing other photographers for advertising campaigns. It was amazing what you picked up watching others do their work. I’ve always been strong on Direction and creating a story-board narrative for models and other creatives to follow, backed by a great knowledge of lighting, the physics of light and how to get the right ‘look’ within a short time.
Studio Fashion Photography – Listening is as important as looking
Before shooting, I always produce a creative brief/story-board with sample images so we are all clear from the outset what we are creating so that all the images created fulfil the brief and meet everybody’s expectations. Client input and those of the skilled creative team make the difference between woeful and wonderful.
I’m only as good as the creative team around me. Each member not only contributes their skillset to the job in hand but I expect them to add a little magic with their ideas so we create something unique. The ‘devil is always in the detail‘, getting it right ‘in-camera’ is important to me, as it not only saves costly retouching, but each amendment takes something away from the original image.

Keeping creative control
I’m happy and I have the equipment to shoot either tethered or send jpgs over wi-fi to mobile devices whilst shooting. I have done this for a number of years so clients have an overview of what’s being photographed to make styling or composition decisions.
I can shoot for as little as a couple of hours through to a day, a week or longer – RATE CARD
